Forging a Workable Solution to America’s Energy
Growing terror threats, a world running out of oil, catastrophic climate change, runaway fuel and power costs—is this a recipe for a good night’s sleep?
“Worry not!” says Dan Hodges, co-chairman of an emerging vanguard energy company and senior flight instructor the F-16 Fighting Falcon. “There is a way to span from our current energy crisis to an era of clean, sustainable, secure, and affordable energy—if we act now.”

Excerpt from Future Span
. . . [parents] look back . . . to their mothers and fathers as they seemed then—so strong, so marvelous—to the schoolyard games, to the springtime of youth when the energies of growth propelled them into the future and everything still seemed possible. —Louise J. Kaplan, 20th century U.S. psychologist.
. . . with the rise of logic we attain the impossible—infinite energy, infinite motion, and the triumph of power.”—Peter W. Huber and Mark P. Mills
Each time I pilot an F-16 Flying Falcon I experience the fulfillment of a dream that has burned in my heart from my youth. It has been my privilege to serve since 1997 as a senior F-16 flight instructor with the 162nd Fighter Wing in Tucson, Arizona, where I am honored to be included among a select cadre of instructors that train pilots from all over the world to master the amazing capability of this highly maneuverable and compact multi-role aircraft. Today, as I taxi down the takeoff runway for what seems like the thousandth time, I sense the awe of adventure and responsibility in the same measure as that unforgettable exhilaration of my initial flight many years ago. What lies ahead for me today is by now fully predictable—the inevitable lifting of spirits and an extremely compartmentalized and focused approach to the mission of the flight—in my view, the exact approach necessary to overcome the monumental issues we face as a nation on our quest for security, clean energy, and the preservation of our way of life. In this context, the F-16 is my prism of understanding, my lens to the future. (view table of contents)
